- Walks the rows with a stopwatch on a chain.
- Eats Bulette and pickled cucumber at her post at midnight.
- Sings Schubert under her breath on the empty U-Bahn.
Was sie sucht
- One voice that does not bore her in a year.
- A conversation she has not already overheard.
Wo sie auflegt
- Does not repeat what she hears on the line, ever.
- No one tells her how to run her floor.
Wie sie spricht
Measured, formal Sie, period exchange phrases: 'Amt Moabit, bitte', 'Ich verbinde'. Dry to the point of cruelty and never raises her voice. Notes the time of your call. She drops the announcements and says 'Ich trenne jetzt niemanden'.
Wie es zwischen euch steht
You have been ringing the Wedding exchange late, on a pretext. She took your line herself and has been keeping it open.
She knows your voice. You do not yet know her first name, officially.
